‘The Future of Digital Health: Envisioning Artificial Intelligence as the Next Frontier in Medical Care’ at AIM Congress 2024

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 9 May 2024 –  AIM Congress 2024, a premier global investment platform, took place in Abu Dhabi this year from 7 – 9 May under the theme “Adapting to a Shifting Investment Landscape: Harnessing New Potential for Global Economic Development”.

Chua Ming Jie, CEO of EVYD Technology exchanged views with a panel of esteemed industry leaders on the topic of ‘The Future of Digital Health: Envisioning Artificial Intelligence as the Next Frontier in Medical Care’. The discussion explored the current developments of digital health and the opportunities artificial intelligence could bring to its evolution.

The rise of revolutionary technologies like Large Language Models (LLMs)  LLMs, popularized by ChatGPT has played a pivotal role in mainstreaming AI, making it impossible to overlook its potential without risking falling behind.

In healthcare, where prioritizing patient safety is paramount, there has traditionally been a cautious approach towards adopting new technologies. While there’s a noticeable shift towards embracing AI-driven solutions, we must ensure that governance frameworks evolve in tandem to facilitate responsible adoption.

First, good quality data is the foundation of building reliable AI applications. However, data quality issues are persistent in healthcare and vast amount of information remains in unstructured forms. To address this, we developed EVYDENCE to seamlessly integrate and convert disparate healthcare data into structured and standardized formats compatible with international interoperability standards.

Second, ensuring the suitability of AI models for their intended use is critical. We emphasize the importance of utilizing local data for rigorous evaluation before deployment. This enables us to identify and address any shortcomings through fine-tuning and the implementation of risk mitigation strategies. Continuous monitoring and adaptation are also vital to ensure the model’s effectiveness and reliability in the real world.

Lastly, it is important to foster transparency and accountability in AI development and deployment. Users must have access to information about how AI algorithms operate, the data they are trained on and the rationale behind their decisions.

In the foreseeable future, AI will not completely replace human healthcare professionals. However, AI can serve as a helpful tool to enhance overall efficiency.

The opportunity lies in designing mechanisms to detect where human intervention is required and which action steps are needed to enable a seamless transition between AI and human service delivery.
